Understanding Giftedness and Twice-exceptionality (2e): A Strengths-Based Guide for Parents and Caregivers

Many bright and curious children learn and experience the world differently leaving parents unsure how best to support them. Some children race ahead in their thinking yet struggle with everyday tasks. Others appear both capable and overwhelmed at the same time.

Giftedness isn’t linear. Strengths and struggles can grow at different speeds and at different times.

This webinar will help you make sense of gifted and twice-exceptional learners through a compassionate and evidence-based lens.

Together we will explore what giftedness and twice-exceptionality really looks like, why some children develop at different speeds, and how you can support your child’s learning, wellbeing, and confidence at home and at school. We’ll also touch on key transition points like the move from primary to secondary school and how these shifts can impact on gifted and 2e learners.

We will also discuss how assessment can be useful in understanding complex learning profiles and providing appropriate support.

You will explore:

- What giftedness really looks like beyond grades and achievement

- How asynchronous development shapes behaviour, motivation and school engagement

- How transitions (including primary to secondary school) can affect gifted and 2e learners

- How cognitive and academic assessments work, what they measure, and how they help clarify a child’s learning profile and skill development

You will walk away with:

- A clearer understanding of your child’s strengths, needs, and developmental profile

- Practical, strengths-based strategies you can you at home and in partnership with school

- Language to help you advocate for appropriate support, challenge, and adjustments

- A better understanding of when assessment might be helpful, what the process involves, and how results can guide school supports and next steps.

This webinar is for:

- Parents and caregivers of bright and curious children

- Families who suspect their child may be gifted or twice-exceptional

- Parents who notice their child having high abilities in some areas but unexpected challenges in others.

- Parents seeking clarity about learning, attention, emotional regulation, or school engagement, or who are navigating school transitions for their gifted or twice-exceptional child

- Anyone wanting to better understand and support a child who learns or experiences the world differently.
